What does The Bridge Fellowship mean?
In 1 John 1: 3, the apostle John says, "that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ."
1. The Fellowship of The Cross.
We were made to be in fellowship with God. But sin has separated us from God. We could never get back to God by our own efforts. The law of God shows how far we have fallen away from a loving Father. But Jesus the Son of God came to be the bridge between God and man. He came to bring us into fellowship with God the Father.
All who believe in what Jesus has done on the cross are forgiven of their sins and are united with Him in His death, burial and resurrection. Indeed our fellowship is with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
2. The Fellowship of The Believers.
In Acts 2: 42, when the Holy Spirit came upon believers they began to fellowship with one another. "And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers."
The word fellowship (Greek Koinonia) appears 20 times in the Bible. It is “a joint partnership, sharing in common, communion.” This fellowship is expressed when we gather habitually in community.
Scripture commands us to outdo one another in showing honour (Romans 12:10), to live in harmony with one another (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8), welcome one another (Romans 15:7), serve one another in love (Galatians 5:13), be kind and compassionate to one another; forgive one another (Ephesians 4:32), admonish one another (Colossians 3:16), encourage one another (1 Thessalonians 5:11; Hebrews 3:13), spur one another on toward love and good deeds (Hebrews 10:24), show hospitality to one another (1 Peter 4:9), and love one another from a pure heart (1 Peter 1:22; 1 John 3:11; 3:23; 4:7; 4:11-12).
We are a fellowship of believers united in the community of the Trinity.
As a fellowship of believers we now tell others "that which we have seen and heard” so that they too may have fellowship with the Father (Matthew 28: 18—20).
We do this by building relational bridges in our neighbourhoods, workplaces and cities for God’s glory!
